Congratulations on your purchase of FOREVER® Facial Recognition! This exciting feature will help you automatically identify and organize the people in your photos, making it easier than ever to relive your favorite memories.
If you’ve already created People profiles, read on for the best practices to seamlessly integrate those manual profiles with your new Facial Recognition.
How Facial Recognition Interacts with Manual People Profiles
You may notice that faces are now highlighted with bounding boxes but will also have their name appear in the Info panel when viewed from the lightbox, almost like two People profiles are associated with the image. This means the photo has been processed by Facial Recognition but it was also manually added to a People profile.
While the system is identifying faces and linking them to profiles, it’s important to preserve both:
- The facial mapping (bounding boxes) created by the system; and
- The personal details (name, bio, birth date, etc.) you may have manually added to profiles.
Follow these steps to combine the best of both worlds!
How to Merge Manual and Facial Recognition People Profiles
Step 1: Identify & Name Duplicates
In the People tab, look for duplicate profiles that are currently Unnamed (this means it was created by Facial Recognition). Your goal is to name everyone you want to keep shown in your account. DO NOT MEREGE YET we only want to rename each profile.
To Rename a People Profile you can:
- Click on the "Unnamed" part when viewing everyone's photos in People tab; or
- Navigate into the profile and click "Unnamed" at the top of the specific person; or
- Within the individual's profile click the edit icon in the upper right.
💡 Tip: Go through the People tab and start naming the recognized profiles you see — you can simply label them by their first name or relation to you (such as "John" or "father-in-law") to make it easier to find them. Don't worry about what you name them as this will be updated later!
Do you see anyone you don't want shown in your account? You can simply Hide their profile from view!
Step 2: Verify Within Each Profile
If there are people in your life who are identical twins/triples or there are strong genetics that run in a family (such as a dad and his son look the exact same when they were toddlers), then we suggest doing this extra step to be absolutely sure Facial Recognition can properly learn their subtle differences for a more accurate sorting moving forward.
- Go into the People tab and change your sorting to show "Least Photos" first
- Choose one person from the twins/triplets/family and click into their People profile
- Click on the first photo shown here, and on the right Info panel hover over their image to verify it's correctly identifying them
-
If they are correctly named, move to the next photo in the group;
If it's incorrect, follow these steps to relabel them:
· Press "Edit" next to the People shown
· Click on the person's face with the incorrect name
· Start typing the right person's name
· Choose the manually created People profile you have for the person — ⚠️IMPORTANT: Doing this will remove the photo from your view and move you to the next file in the list - Repeat step 4 for all the images in this grouping until it only contains the one person's recognized face (this may end up being only a single image because we are trying to train Facial Recognition from scratch, don't get discouraged if this happens!)
Step 3: Bulk Merge
Now we will be merging your identified duplicates (ones with bounding boxes) into the manually created People profiles you originally created.
- Go to the People tab in your account
- Locate the manual profile you created for a person
- Right-click on their photo and choose Bulk Merge
- From here select the duplicate profiles you found in step 1, then confirm the selection
- Repeat steps 1-4 for each person in your list until they each have a single People profile displayed
By following these steps, you'll ensure a smooth transition into using Facial Recognition while preserving the personal details you’ve already worked hard to add.
