If you notice a folder in Manage Content that appears grayed out and the kits inside are all question marks, this typically means the folder location is no longer accessible or has been moved. Follow the steps below to restore the folder and its contents to continue using in your Artisan® projects:
Step 1: Identify the File Location
- Within the Content Manager click on the grayed-out folder.
- Near the top of the screen, note the file location displayed in blue text.
- Example: The Commercial Art Kits folder is usually located at
C:\Users\Public\Documents
-
Write down this file path — you’ll need it later.
💡 Tip: If you recently moved your art kits and this location no longer exists, please find where the folder is currently before proceeding.
Step 2: Remove the Folder Location
- While still in Artisan, right-click the grayed-out folder.
- Select "Change Folder Location or Remove Folder."
- In the new window, choose Option 4: Remove Folder Location.
- A warning box will appear. Click Yes to proceed.
⚠️ Warning: This will remove the kits from any categories where they were previously assigned. If you want to still keep these categories please follow the first few steps from this article to back up the appropriate file.
Step 3: Re-add the Folder Location
- Within your Content Manager, right-click on Library in the left-hand panel.
- Choose "Add Folder to Library."
- Browse to the file location you noted earlier.
- Single-click the correct folder (e.g., Commercial Art Kits) and click OK.
Final Step: Confirm Restoration
- After a few moments, the kits should reappear in the Content Manager.
- The folder will no longer be grayed out, and any associated content should be restored without any question marks.
- If you need to recover the categories associated with these newly restored kits, please continue the steps in this article to finish the recovery with your backed up file.
