Default for old albums created with Upload First as the order - is there a setting where we can do a bunch of these to date>newest first?
AnsweredIN the previous platform, when you created a new album, the default for the album sort was Upload date> newest first. Now in F3, the default is date taken> newest first. I was in a pretty good habit of changing my albums to date taken> newest first, but I am finding there are several that I hadn't done that with. Is there a way we can have a setting that defaults to how we prefer new albums to be set up? Or a setting that allows us to bulk set the order of our albums?

Hi Jennifer Foote!
We value your feedback on this. We will consider this for future updates to FOREVER 3.
Dionne Merriott - In FOREVER 2, the default sort order for Albums and Tags was set to "Upload Date > Newest First." With FOREVER 3, the default sort order was updated to "Taken At Date > Newest First" for Albums, Tags, and People. However, when we launched FOREVER 3, we did not alter the sort order for any existing albums. If you are observing something different, feel free to contact support. Thank you!

I agree, since the new Forever 3.0 changed all the sorting to date uploaded, newest first, it caused great confusion for my clients. One in particular had 74 Albums and 244 tags in her account that is 212 GB. I had to go through each one of those and change the sorting to Date taken, oldest first like we had it before the update.

Erika Reid. In the accounts I have worked in for clients, the existing albums were changed to "Date taken, newest first as I explained. I have set up 6 clients with facial recognition and those are the primary ones I have been working on since Forever 3 updated. All of them had the default sort for existing albums changed to date taken, newest first..

I agree that we need a way to bulk change the sort order for albums. This would be better than being able to set a default (but if that is the only way, I'll take it). Why would it be better? Because it's preferable to view old, scanned photos by Date taken, OLDEST first (or Name AtoZ if capture dates aren't changed for scanned photos). When backs of photos are scanned, they don't fall after the photo in Date taken, Newest first. We keep having to spend 1-2 hours in new client accounts to change all the albums to Date Taken OLDEST first. Or perhaps it could be like the privacy settings - where all albums nested below a single album will have their "sort by" option changed to whatever you change the top level album to. This is how I deal with albums when uploading to Valet since all albums are set to Private by default. I upload one top level folder and once everything is uploaded through Valet, I change the Privacy setting to Connections on that top level folder and it changes it for all the albums.
For newer/digital photos, users may be used to and want to view photos by NEWEST date first. So having the option to easily change the order as a bulk feature would make it easier for all users (since people have their individual preferences).
Thank you for considering!

I love Sandra's solution to allow the top level to dictate automatically the view for that album and all nested albums. I agree that when uploading using Valet, it is a manual process to go through and change the order on all of the albums. Uploading digitized photos that have been either renamed or redated is one such situation as Sandra explained. Since FOREVER reads the dates a little differently sometimes sorting by name A to Z is necessary to get them in the correct sequence. Beyond that, some clients just prefer to see their photos oldest to newest. If global is not possible then at least top level to adjust all the nested would be really helpful. Thanks!
