Have you ever needed to copy or move a page from one Artisan project to another? Did you ever want to recreate a page you made in one project and use the same layout in a completely different project? This article will walk through how to move one or several pages from one project to another one!
Transfer Options
There are two main ways to copy your pages from one project into another: the buttons to Add Page for books and page prints, or overwrite a single page using Template for any project type.
🛑Before Moving Pages🛑
Here are a few important tips to ensure a smooth transition of your pages from one project to another:
- 📂Make sure you know where the project that contains the page(s) you want to import into a different project. Not sure where to find your project? You can open it in Artisan, then go to File > Properties > Location (you can copy or simply jot it down). If the location says OneDrive please follow these steps first to move the project out of there!!
- 🚫Do NOT attempt to move pages in Windows File Explorer!! You must import pages within Artisan for the project to recognize them.
- 📐Pages must be the same aspect ratio at an equal or bigger size to be imported from one project to another. For example, you cannot move a 12x12 page into an 8.5x11 book, but you could into a 10x10 project.
- 🔒This process will add a copy of the page's design into the new project, it DOES NOT remove the page from the original. After the copying is complete you can go back to the original project to delete the page or redesign it as you see fit.
- 📸If you have exported your Artisan pages into JPG, PNG, or TIF formats then these two import options will NOT work. Please bring the images into your project's Photos panel and insert onto the page instead.
📄Add Page
This button will add one or more pages and keep all your existing designed pages within the project. Unfortunately, this is not able to be used in projects with strict page numbers (such as cards, calendars, mugs, coasters, etc) or projects near or at their page limit (like a photo book with max pages) — you will instead want to use the Template button steps listed below.
- Open the Artisan project you want to bring the page into.
- On the Home ribbon at the top click "Add Page" > "Using a page file from My Computer..."
📌Note: If you do not see the "Add Page" button you may need to click a blue arrow at the end of the row to see more options, as shown here. - When the file explorer window opens, navigate to the folder that contains your wanted pages (if you copied or jotted down the location you can click the address bar and put it directly here).
- Once inside the project's folder you will need to adjust the View in order to "see" what's on the page. We suggest setting this to Large or Extra Large images.
📌Note: Artisan's naming structure will NOT list your pages in the same order as they are in your project which is why you will want to be able to view the thumbnail preview image. - Select the page(s) you want (hold down the Ctrl key to select more than one page) then click Open — your pages will be added to the end of your open project, but can be moved into any spot in your project (click and drag in the Page panel).
- If you've created a photo book project, to bring your Cover page into the new book please follow the steps below
🎨Template
This button can only apply on top of the currently viewed page. Unfortunately, this can only bring in a single page at a time — if you have multiple pages to bring into a Photo Book or Page Print project you will instead want to use the Add Page button steps listed above.
- Open the Artisan project you want to bring the page into, then navigate to a blank page or another one you no longer need the designs on.
- On the Home ribbon at the top click "Template" > "Using a page file from My Computer..."
📌Note: If you do not see the "Add Page" button you may need to click a blue arrow at the end of the row to see more options, as shown here. - When the file explorer window opens, navigate to the folder that contains your wanted page design (if you copied or jotted down the location you can click the address bar and put it directly here).
- Select the page you want (reminder you can only choose 1 page in total) then click Open — your page design will be added to the currently viewed page, but can be moved into any spot in your project (click and drag in the Page panel).
