Putting a QR Code in your project is a great way to share even more memories! This code can lead people to a specific part of your account, such as to a video or for an entire album. The process to add a QR Code to your project is a little different depending on if you're adding it to a Create & Print project through the FOREVER website, versus adding it within an Artisan desktop project.
IMPORTANT: If you delete the place the QR Code leads to, it will completely break the code, rendering it unusable. We strongly suggest marking these places in some way so you remember to keep them in your account, ensuring all printed QR Codes continue to work. This can include favoriting a file, writing a note in the description, or putting a certain Tag on it! You can CLICK HERE for more information on the considerations you should make when deleting files from your Gallery.
Online Create & Print
The online print project system will allow you to add one automatically generated QR Code per page of the project. This means in a book you can have one on the cover and one on each inner pages; However, if you're in a single-paged project (like a canvas or magnet) then it is one QR Code for the entire project.
Here's how you can get to the automatically generated QR Code:
- Log in to your FOREVER account through a web browser and start a new project or edit an existing one.
- Depending on the project type there will be one of these two options:
A. On the page itself will be an Add QR button, or...
B. On the side bar there will be a QR Code tab.
NOTE: If there is no button or tab this means it is not recommended to print a QR Code on this type of material (such as blankets) - Select if you'd like to add a QR Code leading to a single File or to an Album in your account.
- Pick the File or Album (depending on the previous choice), and the system will generate a QR Code.
- You can now freely move the QR Code onto the project's page to any part of what's deemed the "Safe Zone" (this is the space that all important information should be in since it's guaranteed to show in the final print product).
- Additionally you can Reduce or Increase the QR Code size so it can fit better on your project. You can click the Preview button to review the project page(s) and ensure the code is correctly placed for the result you're looking for.
AUTOMATIC QR CODE TIPS
- Existing QR Codes linked to an outside resource (such as a wedding registry, personal blog, etc.) need to be added to your project in a photo box and cannot use the built in "Add QR Code" functionality.
- You can test scanning the QR Code with your mobile device (or by going to the QR Code tab if available for that project type) before printing to ensure the code works and leads to the area you want it to.
Desktop Artisan
As mentioned, adding a QR Code to Artisan is a bit of a different process than when using the online Create & Print service. With this we will need to grab the QR Code as an image and then bring that in to the project.
Here are the steps to get a QR Code image from your account:
- Go to the file, Album, or Tag you want the QR Code to lead to.
- Click the Share button and choose the option for a QR Code.
- Download this image of the generated code - it will act like a regular photo in PNG format.
Then here are the steps to use the QR Code image in your Artisan project:
- Open your Artisan project and on the Photos panel import the QR Code image - it should populate to the bottom of the photos list.
- If applicable, navigate to the project page you want the scannable code to be on.
- Insert the QR Code from the Photos panel onto the page. From there you can resize and/or move it so that it fits nicely within your design.
QR CODE USABILITY TIPS
- Keep the QR Code size no smaller than 1.5 x 1.5 inches (or 3.81 x 3.81 centimeters).
- Be extra cautious if placing the QR Code near the edge of the page; we strongly suggest staying about 1/8 inches (or 0.318 centimeters) within the Safe Zone to ensure the entire code is scannable.
- It is NOT recommended to print them on blankets due to the nature of the fabric.
- You can test scanning the QR Code with your mobile device before printing to ensure the code works and leads to the area you want it to.
It cannot be stressed enough how important it is that whichever memories you choose to have a QR Code for (ie. single File, Album, etc.), please do NOT delete it or turn the Share Link capability OFF for it - this will cause the QR Code to break and your printed item will no longer lead anywhere when its code is scanned.
