When attempting to install one of the FOREVER® desktop software (Artisan®, Historian™, and/or Valet™) you may encounter a Windows error stating either...
- "For security and performance, this mode of Windows only runs verified apps from the Store."
- "Windows in S mode only runs apps from the Microsoft Store."
This error occurs because your computer is in "S Mode" (Safe Mode), a Microsoft security setting that restricts installations to apps from the Microsoft Store. To install any FOREVER® desktop software, you must first turn off S Mode.
How to Switch Out of S Mode
Follow the appropriate link below for your Windows version to disable S Mode. Once S Mode is turned off, you should be able to install and run your FOREVER software!
Windows 11: Switching out of S Mode
Windows 10: Switching out of S Mode
Change App Install Settings
If the previous steps don't work, you can follow these instructions to manually change the application install settings for your computer:
-
Click on the Start button and go to Settings (press
Windows Key + I). - Navigate into Apps in the left sidebar.
- Select Advanced app settings.
- Look for Choose where to get apps and click the drop-down menu.
- Change the option from recommended Microsoft Store only to Anywhere (or Anywhere, but let me know if there's a comparable app from the Microsoft Store as either option will let us continue).
- Close Settings and try to install your FOREVER Software again.
