Custom Default Filters & “Do Not Show” Photo Option
I would like to suggest two improvements to how photos are displayed and filtered in FOREVER.
1. Allow Users to Set Their Own Default Filters
Currently, our photo filters default to Date Taken – Newest.
I would love the ability to choose my preferred filter settings and save them as my personal default, so that each time I open my photos, they are displayed the way I prefer without having to change the filters again.
2. Add a “Do Not Show” Option for Individual Photos
We currently have the ability to mark photos with a heart (🩷) to designate them as Favorites and then use the Favorites filter to display only those photos.
I would love a similar option that works in reverse: the ability to mark certain photos as “Do Not Show.”
There are photos I absolutely want to preserve, but I don’t necessarily want them appearing unexpectedly when browsing my collection.
For example:
* Photos of my father in his casket
* Post-surgery photos
* Wound healing and medical progress photos
* Other sensitive, unpleasant, or deeply personal images
These photos are important to keep, and I may have them organized in specific albums for a reason. However, I don’t want them appearing among my everyday photos, either for myself or for someone else browsing my collection.
How I envision this working:
* Add a simple designation to individual photos, similar to the existing Favorites heart.
* Photos marked “Do Not Show” would automatically be excluded from normal browsing.
* These photos would remain safely preserved in FOREVER and accessible in their designated albums.
* Selecting an “ALL Photos” filter would override the exclusion and display everything, including photos marked “Do Not Show.”
This would not be a privacy or security feature, nor would it prevent access to the photos. It would simply give users more control over what appears during normal browsing.
The goal is to preserve everything without having to see everything.
FOREVER is designed to preserve an entire lifetime of memories. Not every memory is happy or something we want to encounter unexpectedly, but that doesn’t make it any less worthy of preservation.
I believe both of these features would make managing and enjoying our photo collections more personal, comfortable, and convenient, especially as our collections grow over time.
