The Artisan® Print Guide is a tool will assist you by displaying the FOREVER® Print Shop’s suggested design parameters for a more accurate printing experience. The Print Guide is a static overlay that is not part of your files, it is visible when working in the project but will not be part of the final printed product. This feature can be toggled off and on using the Print Guide button in the upper right corner.
The guide is broken down into three main sections:
- Bleed Area
- Trim Line
- Safe Zone (or "Safety")
Please note that some projects may not have all three lines. In these cases, treat the outer edge as the Bleed Area and what's inside the workspace as the Trim Line.
Bleed Area
The Bleed Area is the furthest space out on the designable page.To prevent white edges from possibly appearing on your final print, please extend any background papers, embellishments, or photos to “bleed” off the end of the page if you don't want an abrupt edging in your project.
This is because we print slightly more than what will be delivered, then trim off the unnecessary area to get it to the desired product measurements. Sometimes shifts can happen with the trim line so we ask you design with the thought what's in the Bleed may end up in your physical print project.
Something with "Full Bleed" means that the photo drop point was intentionally designed to go partly off the page and have some parts trimmed off in the final look. This can be found in many online Create & Print books (such as The Big Picture) as well as some Artisan Blueprints or art kit templates. If working in Artisan and you would not like a photo to risk being trimmed, you may need to move it in order to accommodate the Safe Zone.
Trim Line
The Print Shop strives to hit the Trim Line with accuracy on every project printed. It usually extends 1⁄8 inch (about 0.318 centimeters) from the edge inside the workspace for smaller projects — excluding blankets and pillows, for example. While this is our target, due to minor shifts that can happen during the production process, this line is only an estimate — the trim can happen anywhere between the Bleed Area and Safe Zone lines to still be in standard tolerance.
To maximize efficiency, trimming is done mechanically and there is a tolerance of 1⁄8 inch on either side of the Trim Line. It's important to not design any critical elements right to the Trim Line as it might be cut off in the final product.
Safe Zone
The Safe Zone is an industry standard for print manufacturing which is usually ¼ inch (0.635 centimeters) from the Bleed Area. Anything inside the Safety's line is safe from being trimmed off or folded, meaning it is guaranteed to appear in your final physical print product.
Some elements on templates, Blueprints, or predesigned pages are placed close to or beyond the trim line intentionally. If the digital art is editable and you would not like an element to risk being trimmed, you may need to move it in order to accommodate the Safe Zone.
